There are so many reasons why a person chooses to come to therapy. Most importantly is to know that you are not ‘crazy’ and there is no shame in getting help; actually it’s the bravest thing a person can do for themselves or their family. We all need help at different points in our lives. Overall mental health is crucially important to living an abundant life and should be afforded the same care and attention to that of our physical health.
Common issues that I can help with include (but not limited to):
- Life transitions
- Relationship issues
- Anxiety Disorders and Panic Attacks
- Chronic Pain and Chronic Illness
- Auto-immune disease, or other medical issues
- Women’s Issues (Including fertility and Post-Partum depression)
- Cancer and Psycho-Oncology
- Issues with Aging (a parent or yourself)
- Caregiver Issues
- Grief and Loss
- Trauma and PTSD
- Post Traumatic Growth
- Personal Growth and Motivation
- Stress Management
- Anger Management
Couples therapy focuses on the relationship between two people at any point in their relationship when they are struggling. Sometimes this is at the beginning of the relationship, prior to marriage, or after many years together, or any time you are facing challenging times.
We all work together to make sure the needs of each party are addressed. I work in a non-judgmental way and don’t take sides with either party, but rather remain neutral and work on behalf of the relationship as a whole. I also believe that it’s critically important for the therapist to not hold any secrets for either party, and this allows the couple to build trust and respect for each other.
Children, Adolescents and Teens
Growing up can be a great yet challenging time for children or teens. It is such a unique time in their life and it can become so challenging due to issues within themselves, at home or at school with their peers.
Often behavioral issues are just a way that the child/teen is communicating to the outside world, but there is a deeper issue at work. The great thing about children and teens is that once the source of the issue is addressed, change and growth can occur rapidly.
Very often if there is an issue at home, whether discord or health issues with a parent, the child/teen absorbs the stress and acts out with their behavior. I believe that helping children and teens navigate through issues can be a life long aide to help them learn proper coping skills and ways to manage the stresses of life. It is very common that family therapy is recommended to augment the progress of the child or teen, and help the family learn how to best support them.
Family therapy works in an integrative manner with the various family members in a nurturing way when relationships are challenged. The emphasis is on the systemic interaction, roles and boundaries (or lack thereof) between family members.
It is especially important for families to work to get on the ‘same page’ and have each individual’s needs addressed, especially during challenging or transitional times.
A full assessment of each individual, along with the family unit as a whole, will be used to create a personalized therapeutic plan. The plan will include a combination of individual and family sessions in order to create the best overall environment. The length and frequency of family sessions are tailored to assure that there is enough time to address the entire family.
In addition to office or online sessions, I also offer custom tailored services depending on your unique situation and circumstances, which may include any combination of special location, extended time sessions, case management, integrative services with other health care provides and many other options.
Some examples include:
- Visits to your office, home, hospital or other agreed upon location.
- Crisis Support – Extended length sessions
- Dealing with a Diagnosis
- Palliative and End of Life Support
- Case management
- Health Care Provider Integration
- Life Transitions Intensives
